This year will mark the 74th year of independence for India. Our society has evolved, relations with other countries have changed, economy has fluctuated but most importantly we are no longer ruled by non-native occupants. We express our gratitude to Gandhi ji, Pandit Nehru, Vallabhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey and various other exceptional freedom struggle personalities, but in the midst of this we forget to acknowledge the pain and struggle of the scores of 'Freedom Fighters'. If not for their mass fight against the British Crown, none of us today would be able to call our country a 'Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic'.
Freedom Fighters were distinguished leaders who sacrificed their lives with fearless courage to bring freedom to our country. They faced suffering, exlpoitation, spent months ( many of them years) in jails, immense torture and hardship to bring freedom. If we delve into the history, one may notice that most freedom fighters joined the freedom struggle without any prior formal training in war or related fields. They went to wars and protests with the knowledge that they might be killed by opposition powers. They were not just people who fought with arms against the authoritarian forces but they were the same people who joined the protests through literature, legal advocates and people who financially supported the fight for freedom. They made their Indian brothers and sisters realise their own rights and pointed out the existing social injustice's and crimes committed by the ones in power. The most vital effect that the freedom fighters left on the people of India is that they inspired others to understand their rights and stand up against the Crown. It was solely because of these Freedom Fighters that the countrymen united with the bond of nationlism and patriotic feelings.
Freedom Fighters are the propelling force behind the success of the freedom struggle. They are the reason why we now prosper in a free country. Jai Hind.
